Position Summary:  The Director, User Experience is responsible for developing and executing the visual design strategy and user experience for all Virtuoso's digital products, with a primary focus on We aim to make our site the premier source for consumers seeking luxury travel inspiration, information, and access to the world's best travel advisors and the experiences they can create for their clients.

The successful Director, User Experience will act as a bridge who connects Technology with our internal stakeholders, shining a spotlight on the importance of prioritizing the end users of our digital products. The Director will work in concert with Virtuoso's Marketing leaders to create a dynamic digital experience that showcases content for both B2C and B2B users in a way that is engaging, sophisticated, and on-brand.

This position will oversee a team of UX designers and researcher, and must be an innovative, collaborative leader who is passionate about user-centric design.


Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Develop overall design direction and UX strategy, working with Marketing leaders to ensure brand priorities, look, and feel. Establish UX guidelines and style libraries for all  products that uphold global brand goals.
  2. Day-to-day management of UX team, including daily assignments, tasks, and long-term projects, as well as mentoring with professional development, goal setting, and reviews.
  3. Hands-on work to deliver wireframes, concepts, prototypes, and final designs for all digital initiatives to product and development teams on time.
  4. Collaborate with key product stakeholders to understand and support business goals for existing and new products as part of the technology development process and long-term roadmap.
  5. Serve as a liaison between business, creative, content, and technical teams, translating business requirements, user needs, and input from cross-functional teams into on-brand design solutions.
  6. Responsible for end-to-end execution of best practices in user-centric interface design in all applications, including global localization for various user types in different markets around the world.
  7. Stay abreast of UX best practices, industry trends, and thought leadership, conducting regular ideation brainstorms and advising when to involve user research and testing.
  8. Interface with executive management and other business stakeholders with presentations on upcoming or proposed design updates and other UX projects.


Educational and Skills Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred, in Human Centered Design or equivalent professional experience.
  • 10-15 years UX design experience developing strategy and deliverables for desktop, web, and mobile products, with at least 5 years of experience working on a consumer/retail digital platform.
  • Proven leadership abilities, strong communication skills, and ability to build cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Collaborative, sincere interpersonal skills, easily able to positively discuss, present, and support designs and design decisions with cross-functional and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong project management and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize input from different sources in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Superior command of user experience best practices, information architecture, and interactive design, with a focus on user-centric design methodologies that employ creative and strategic thinking to develop innovative solutions to problems.
  • Experience managing a UX staff.
  • Experience with web metrics (Google Analytics, etc.).
  • Knowledgeable in SEM and SEO methodologies.
  • Experience working in CMS platforms.
  • Proficient with tools such as Morae, Axure, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Ability to travel, domestically and abroad.
