Position Summary: The Software Development Manager is responsible for managing and directing a team of application developers through participating in project resourcing, recruitment, mentoring, and career development. In conjunction with the VP of Engineering and Director of Software Architecture, this position will execute and help define the technical direction for the team, drive the evolution of the systems architecture, and make appropriate technology choices. As needed, they will actively participate as a hands-on developer in multiple SCRUM teams to develop new architecture, develop new features and improve performance of existing systems. This position will also participate in Code Reviews for Database and Application source code, as well as participate in sprint planning across 7 sprint teams to help ensure quality and on time delivery/deployments each sprint.

 

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Clearly communicate project goals to team members and hold them accountable for their commitments manage to aggressive but realistic project milestones
  2. Gather and communicate project status and provide timely visibility into deviations from expectations
  3. Identify, capture, and drive issues to resolution
  4. Collaborate with Product Management and other business stakeholders as appropriate to establish complete and actionable business requirements with an appropriate level of technical detail
  5. Participate as appropriate in overall product planning activities
  6. Follow defined software development lifecycle best practices
  7. Research and prototype third-party systems and controls
  8. Research and prototype new architecture or frameworks ahead of mainstream development
  9. Accountable for high-level design documents for all software systems, frameworks, architecture (UML; Structural, Data flow, System-level) as appropriate to convey basic operation to developers, operations, and for external review.
  10. Miscellaneous duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of leading a team of application developers building enterprise applications
  • 10+ years of software development experience in commercial-grade software shipping products to customers
  • 5+ years building online products utilizing C#, ASP.NET, and SQL for database development, web services, middle-tier work, and front-end development
  • 5+ years building online products utilizing JQUERY, JQUERY Mobile, HTML(5), CSS3, JSON/XML web services
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience managing cross-browser issues
  • Demonstrated experience working with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Perl, Python, Ruby, or etc. with the intent to automate manual tasks (monitoring, deployments, testing, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of threading and concurrency
  • Computer Science basics that come from either a degree in CS or the equivalent
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills is required
  • Familiarity with Agile Development focused mainly with previous or current individual contributor experience is required
  • Sound problem resolution, judgment, and decision-making skills required
